Praises, travel mercies:
Pastor and Deb Duty taking their grandchildren back to their mother in Kentucky, and returning to Virginia this Wednesday.
This coming weekend, with God's help, we will be worshipping in the built-out sanctuary. It's all ready -- except for getting the dust off the musical instruments and retuning them, reconnecting the sound system, adding temporary seating, putting the flags back up, and other touches... we can use the help, folks. If you have time to give, please contact Joe Herod at the church.
John Flowers mentioned that his son JK has found an apartment in Chesapeake, in the Newport News area; he is fifteen minutes from his work and the rent is within his budget. He is happy and grateful.
Prayers:
Craig and Eileen Kramer asked for prayers for her brother Bill Rickard (who joined our church a couple of weeks ago) and has found out he needs a bone marrow transplant. Also a nephew, Stephen (age 19) who has colitis.
Valerie Dinwiddie asked for continuing prayers for her father, still struggling with a lung infection.
The Wheelers are struggling with disease and pain. TJ is getting over a bad cold and keeping up with AWANA and Sean; Andy is in considerable pain with his knee, and eagerly awaiting replacement of his other knee -- on October 19th. Please keep them in your prayers.
Larry Springer asks for continued prayers for Nora, his wife. There is no change in her condition yet.
Jim McManamey asked for prayers for Claudia. She fell on the stairs, and is sore and bruised. Fortunately nothing was broken.
John Flowers asked for continuing prayers for his sister Shirley Harris, coping with her husband's death due to a drunk driver. Pray for the family to come together and reach positive decisions, and for peace and comfort for Shirley.
Jim McManamey mentioned his son-in-law John Barbee; the family has had very little income for the last few months since he was laid off. He had an interview for a job at HUD a week ago, but has not heard anything. Please pray for success in his job search.
Please keep praying for the needs of other people in economic distress in our own church and neighborhoods. Also, please keep praying for the whole church, the leadership, and for God's will to be manifest in all the many projects we are undertaking.

By the Book Sunday School Class: Prayer Requests for Sunday 9/13/09
Praises:
Praises for AWANA, starting this past Wednesday! TJ Wheeler mentioned there were 87 clubbers present, and 38 leaders. TJ said she had gotten a lot of favorable comments and emails from parents.
This may be our last week for services in the new Fellowship Hall. The builders hope to have the sanctuary built out by this coming Thursday; if everything works out, and with sufficient volunteer help, we may be in the sanctuary next Sunday. God is good... all the time.
Jim McManamey reminds everyone that the Truth Project group started meeting this past Friday evening at their home. The Truth Project is a DVD-based course on the Christian worldview; there is room for more folks to participate. Please contact Jim about joining.
Prayers:
I forgot to add one more prayer request, from Patty Tucker. She writes to keep her niece Amber in our prayers: My niece Amber needs to have surgery to remove a mass in her abdomen this month. Her health insurance expires in Oct. and she is unable to get into John Hopkins until mid to late September. She is home on IV 's for now. Thanks for everyone's prayers.
Valerie Dinwiddie asked for continuing prayers for her father, who has a lung infection that is not responding to oral antibiotics. He saw an infectious disease specialist last week. The bacterial infection he has is masked by his other symptoms, and doctors are saying they must wait to treat him until the infection's symptoms get worse. They have to keep him without treatment until he gets worse; they can then culture the bacteria and decide on a treatment.
Andy Wheeler will be having surgery -- replacement of his other knee -- on October 19th.
Larry Springer asked for continued prayers for Nora, his wife. There is no change in her condition yet.
Cathy Clement asked for prayers for her daughter Veronica's friend Samantha, who suffered a broken nose in a Color Guard accident last Friday and will need plastic surgery. Also, Veronica witnessed an apparent stroke suffered by a customer at a store where she is working, and is praying for the customer's recovery.
Claudia McManamey said they are praying for a niece of her daughter-in-law, Abigail (age 7), who fell and broke her arm right at the wrist.
Please keep praying for the Heart Walk -- the youth and the Boltons will be hiking 30 miles of the Appalachian Trail next weekend to raise money for the American Heart Association. There is a sign-up sheet.
Also, Nancy Farischon is starting up the Children's Choir this Sunday. Children from age 5 through seventh grade are welcome; they practice for a Christmastime performance. Children and grandchildren are welcome!
Let's not forget to keep praying for the needs of people in economic distress in our own church and neighborhoods. Also, please keep praying for the whole church, the leadership, and for God's will in all the many projects we are undertaking.

We welcome Doug and Brenda Leivonen, visitors to our class.
Praises for AWANA! Eric Zerkle reports are now 30 T&Ters signed up (grades 3 to 6), and thirteen members have signed up to help; and similar numbers in all the other age groups. The Open House went well this past Wednesday, and they expect many more children to sign up this coming Wednesday in time for the first class. Please keep everyone in your prayers, for the children to be safe and unhurt and for many to be led to Christ. [Help is needed to paint the circle before Wednesday.]
Prayers:
Valerie Dinwiddie asked for prayers for her father, who has a lung infection that is not responding to oral antibiotics. He will be seeing an infectious disease specialist this week. They are trying to find out what other antibiotic will work, and they have to keep him off antibiotics for ten days to be able to culture what he has. They are trying to avoid putting him back in the hospital.
Larry Springer asked for continued prayers for Nora, his wife. There is no change in her condition yet.
Becky and Jason Bolton and a group of the youth will be hiking 30 miles of the Appalachian Trail the weekend of September 19-20, to raise money for the American Heart Association. Please see one of the youth or Jason or Becky if you want to sign up to contribute.
Jim and Claudia McManamey are dealing with the recovery of their dog from serious surgery.
Phil and Lisa Qualls asked for prayers for their son Travis, bitten by a dog yesterday while trying to rescue their pet from a fight in a dog park. Doctors will be checking for infection, but so far his hand seems OK.
Remember to pray for our school children: school starts in Prince William County this Tuesday (also in Fairfax).
Let's not forget to keep praying for the needs of people in economic distress in our own church and neighborhoods. Also, please keep praying for the whole church, the leadership, and for God's will in all the many projects we are undertaking.

By the Book Sunday School Class: Prayer Requests for Sunday 8/30/09
Praises, travel mercies:
Lillian Shank offered praises for Doug's knee, now completely healed. Doug and Lillian thank everyone who prayed for his recovery.
Valerie Dinwiddie is back from the family vacation, and her parents stayed healthy all week. Praises all around.
Craig Kramer asked for travel mercies for Eileen and their daughter Laura, heading back to college this week.
Kim Glasoe praised the Holy Spirit for leading a coworker to accept Christ through him. Jim Church was to have come to the late service this past Sunday.
Jim McManamey offered thanks and praises to everyone who helped get the youth supper going last week. Eileen Kramer got everyone organized, and Mike Benfield paid for the pizza. (If you feel led, pitch a few bucks at Mike or Eileen; our class had offered to help with this supper, and then we forgot to bring it up last week.)
We had two couples as guests this Sunday: Don and Sandy Carmichael, and John and Sheila Webb. Thanks for visiting!
We offer praise in advance for anyone stepping forward with snacks for the next two weeks. We have folks signed up for 9/20 (McManameys); 9/27 (Kramers); and 10/4 (the Pierces), but no one for 9/6 or 9/13.
Prayers:
Rhonda Pierce asked for prayers for a friend of her niece, who has just been diagnosed with leukemia, and the doctors believe it may be fatal. Please pray for strength for the friend and her family, and for God's will.
Lisa Glasoe mentioned her father, suffering from a kidney infection.
Patty Tucker asked for her niece, Amber Lewis (who's been on this list before). She's gone back to Johns Hopkins to have more masses surgically removed.
Don't forget to pray for AWANA! Open House is this Wednesday. Please pray that we look like we are ready, says Heather Zerkle. Eric mentioned that two male leaders had stepped forward this Sunday. We also will be looking for help in building the AWANA circle for games this coming weekend.
Larry Springer asked for prayers for his wife, Nora. She has regressed in her bipolar disorder, apparently having halved her medical regimen and needing to get back on her medication. Larry also mentioned he'd suffered bee stings and lots of ticks this past week.
The Kramers asked for prayers for a family from their former church -- the Torreses are having trouble.
Anita Hampton said her doctor had recommended a hysterectomy; she will know a date within the next two weeks. Please keep praying for a positive result.
Cathy Clement asked for prayers for her brother-in-law, Chris Oler, battling diabetes and spikes in his blood sugar. This week he will be having his gall bladder removed.
Rod Davis mentioned the "See You at the Pole" rally, Sept. 23; an adult version of this youth rally is to be held at the Prince William County Complex (on the Prince William County Parkway) at 7 a.m. on Wednesday 9/23. The rally will offer prayer; the scripture theme is Psalms 80:3: "O God, restore us, And cause Thy face to shine upon us, and we will be saved." [I couldn't locate a Web resource for this event; Pastor Doug may have more information.]
Jim McManamey also reminded us about the Truth Project group that will be meeting on Friday evenings in their home.
