Praises, travel mercies:
On travel: our pastor, facing the heat in Ghana. We pray for him and Deb to be safe, work hard and successfully in the pastoral field, and come back to us.
The church was very active this past week in working to serve the folks who are homeless following the recent storms. We praise God for the service of pastors Doug and Jay (actually both Dougs and Deb as well as Jay, until they left for Ghana), and Donna our secretary who was tireless in communicating with everyone, and all the church member volunteers who worked very hard to find resources, solicit donations, sort clothes and other stuff and get it to the hurting families in the shelters. The church also helped the Schaeffer family move into another trailer, and church members donated furniture and other stuff to furnish the new place.
Prayer requests:
Phillip RIdgway's dad is back home in California. He is doing better after his misadventures with diabetes on their Alaska cruise (including having to be MedEvac'ed to Juneau from the cruise ship).
Phillip also asked for prayers for his mom, living in Newport News; she is on a waiting list for a good assisted living facility.
Claudia McManamey's son-in-law Judd Howry is in training for his prison ministry service at the end of October. There is still time to help out for meals and other resources. Contact the McManameys or John Clement. Also, Claudia mentioned their grandson Ryan Howry, who had labored over a paper he had to present in one of his classes; he had prayed and worried about presenting it from a Christian viewpoint, but it was well received by his teacher and most of his classmates.
Cathy Clement is going back to school! Well, to Liberty University more specifically; she has started a course of study leading to a master's degree in counseling, an offshoot of her dedication to the DivorceCare ministry. Please pray for her as she explores this vocation of service.
Please keep praying for our church, our ethic of service, and our pastor's message... with growth come growing pains.
