By the Book Sunday School Class Prayer Requests for March 22nd, 2009

Praises:
Praise for the youth service on Sunday! The youth were -- well, awesome. Thanks to the participants who served and to the leaders who helped this get going. But the most worthy thing was the youth, moved with the spirit and the enthusiasm of speaking to the church.
Andy Wheeler went through his first knee surgery well. By Wednesday he was back home and starting on his physical therapy. Keep praying for all the Wheelers.
Valerie Dinwiddie says her father is getting along OK. Now to see how he reacts to the long-term antibiotic therapy to prevent infection in the tumor as it shrinks -- it has a hole in its center.
Becky Bolton offered praises and thanks to all for a successful move to their new house. She still has boxes and mess and there are always things to fix, but things are better each day.
Susan Fitzhugh was celebrating the start of her new job, this Monday. She now has to stay healthy until May 1, when her insurance kicks in.
Lisa Glasoe asked for travel mercies for Kim, on his way back from Colorado.

Prayer requests:
Heather Arterburn said the kids are doing better, all at home and recovering from what turned out to be a rotavirus infection -- not 100% yet, but keeping food down.
Cathy Clement mentioned her daughter's great-uncle Harry Statham had passed away; he was a great favorite of the family and will be much missed. Veronica asked that we please pray for the family and especially for his wife Elizabeth; they had been together for over 50 years and she will have a difficult adjustment.
Cathy also mentioned she has started wearing a splint for her jaw, an appliance meant to help with temporomandibular joint pain (TMJ). So far she has a sore mouth, but can already see some effects. She hopes the discomfort will go away.
Claudia McManamey is still battling arthritis pain, but she had cortisone shots in both shoulder joints and is somewhat better. Now the doctors are saying she may need surgery for one or both rotator cuffs. Please keep her in your prayers.
Please be in prayer for the families in our church that are suffering due to the current economic crisis, in particular folks who have lost their jobs due to layoffs. Our brothers and sisters, and their neighbors and friends, are hurting...
Lisa Qualls mentioned that Phillip went in for a routine test and they found a mass on his lung. They will be looking at diagnosis and treatment.
Jim and Claudia McManamey's daughter and son-in-law are very much in transition; Judd is working to find a job and in transition out of the Marines, and their daughter is looking for a job as a pediatric nurse. She is hoping she won't have to take a job as a surgical specialist -- it is very hard for her to work in surgery.
Anita Hampton mentioned her coworker Jan, who has been in a serious car accident and was still in the hospital with possible internal injuries.
Becky Bolton asked for prayers for a career choice. She is hoping to study for a career in Nursing at Northern Virginia CC -- she can do much of it online, except for the practical aspects. Currently she is waiting to see if her degree in Health Sciences will satisfy all the course prerequisites or if she will need to take one course, which will mean waiting a full year to start the program. This is a difficult path for the whole family, with Jason's job as youth pastor and her responsibilities to help him and the three kids and the house, and the money is tight... Please pray for God to show her the path, and for the whole family.

Announcements:
The church is looking for a keyboard or piano player to help with the praise team and the services. Jacquie Ellis is having a lot of trouble with one hand and needs to stop playing. If you know someone or are a keyboard person...
The church is also looking for a leader for the missions team. Joe Herod is still trying to recover from his wife's death and needs a break from this responsibility. Please be in prayer for this very important church role.
Don't forget to contribute a quilt square for Gail Ryder's Family Square Quilt Project. The plan is to sew a quilt, have the men build a frame, and decorate part of the new addition with the quilt. Any moneys not used for the quilt will be added to the Building Fund.

Ongoing Prayers:
Don't forget to pray for our building effort and the faith of our congregation, all of us pulling together.

Update After Andy's Surgery

Anita received this message from T.J. and asked to have it posted so everyone would know how the Wheelers are doing!

"Surgery was great doctor was very pleased. He was up and walking a little on Tuesday and doing PT. He is now home and on the PT machine at the moment. Still trying to figure the new routine. Took me 3 hours to run and get the meds he needed - not done till 9:15pm!! Just nuts!

We are tired but doing well."

Amen. We're still praying!

Praises:
Becky and Jason Bolton closed on their new house purchase, and are now moved in. Thanks to all who have helped and are helping.
The ladies' ministry breakfast was this past Saturday, and 22 attended. A great time was had by all. Saturday night was also game night at the Flowers' home, and all who went had great fellowship -- although John Flowers is still not happy at how his wife beat him at dominoes.
Valerie Dinwiddie said her father's CT scan showed the lung tumor had continued to shrink. Now it has a hole in its center, and to prevent infection he is being treated with antibiotics.
Anita Hampton and Lisa Qualls' mother's 70th birthday was recently celebrated. The daughters praise the Lord for their mom's good health.
Benny and Susan Blanton took the Blanton kids to North Carolina to a sister's surprise 60th birthday celebration... Gave Dana and Billy a weekend to themselves, much appreciated.

Prayer requests:

Patty Tucker asked for prayers for her sister Janice -- the family is going through tough times.

Please be in prayer for the families in our church that are suffering due to the current economic crisis, in particular folks who have lost their jobs due to layoffs. Our brothers and sisters, and their neighbors and friends, are hurting...
Claudia McManamey is still battling arthritis pain. Please keep her in your prayers.
Jim McManamey mentioned his friend Bill Blecha, just diagnosed with stage 2 esophageal cancer. Please pray for him, his wife and his family; this cancer is not ordinarily curable. Doctors have put in a stent; chemotherapy and radiation therapy will follow.
Dana Blanton mentioned her mom and her mom's husband are close to a court decision about their nephew, who has been in trouble with the law. They are hoping to be able to keep him at home.
Kevin O'Connor, friend of Phil Qualls, took himself to the emergency room with a persistent stomach ache. He was told he'd had a heart attack, and a couple of days later had triple bypass surgery. He seems to be recovering well.
Cathy and John Clement are in prayer over a decision -- their tenant at the Woodbridge house has said he is buying elsewhere and moving out, and they will have to figure out what to do -- sell the Fairfax place and move to Woodbridge, find another tenant...

Jon Pacella's dad's motorcycle accident...

Folks, most of you know Jon and Annette Pacella. His dad had a nasty spill on his motorcycle this past weekend, and I meant to add something to our prayer requests, but it got stored in the wrong part of my brain and I forgot before I hit send on the email prayer request. Anyhow, here's Jon's update on his father... please keep him in your prayers, and everyone else out there on two (or four) wheels...

I want to thank all of you so much for all of your prayers for my father after his motorcycle accident.

The outpouring of support overwhelms me. When a brother needs some prayer, you guys come through in spades.

My dad is doing alright. He is pretty banged up (chin, knees, fractured elbow), but he is in good spirits (a little groggy from the meds). He thanks all of you for the prayers. He is gonna need them as he starts his recovery. He goes to the orthopedist this Thursday (they want the knee swelling to come down a bit before starting therapy). I attached a pic - he says the chin looks the worst but hurts the least.

Please take a moment to pray for all those who hit the roads on two wheels. There was an accident in Manassas today, a young man in Lake Ridge died this past weekend, and there are more to come, for sure. Pray that people on the road look out for those on motorcycles, pray that those on motorcycles use good judgement (especially when it comes to alcohol).

Again, thank you guys - I love you all. You continue to inspire me.

By the Book Sunday School Class Prayer Requests for March 1st, 2009

Remember the blog for prayer requests: http://pcbcbythebook.blogspot.com. We are currently adding the prayer requests to the blog, as well as sending them out via email. Eventually, we would hope to move the prayer requests completely to the blog. Please let Mike or John C. know if you are accessing the blog.

Praises:
Heather Arterburn joined the church. We welcome you!
Sparks-a-rama (regional AWANA event) went very well this past Saturday. TJ Wheeler reported that, not only did the Sparkies compete very well and come in second, but they all showed great Christian spirit... All joined in, and some of the Sparkies even joined other teams so they could have a full team and compete... AWANA rocks! Amy Doyle offered praises that there were no injuries. Thanks so much to TJ and the team and all the parents for their work.
Cathy Clement reported her mom has had some head tremors, that a doctor diagnosed as Parkinson's disease and had been treating for almost a year; medicine was totally ineffective. This week she read an article saying that head tremors are not diagnostic for Parkinson's. She's grateful, and mad at her doctor; she will be going to a neurological specialist.
John Flowers reports that, between prayer, medicine and herbal teas, his arthritic knees are doing better. Praises for relief from pain.
The youth completed their 30-hour fast, and the Famine activities were successful and raised funds. We praise our youth, and Jason and Rebecca for guiding them.

Prayers:
Yesterday was the second anniversary of the Arterburn's son (one of triplets) death at age two weeks. They still mourn the loss of Ethan. Please keep them in your prayers.
Claudia McManamey is still hanging in there. Please keep praying for relief from pain and for resolution of the other medical issues so she can resume using her arthritis medicine.
Lisa Glasoe asked for prayers for her dad, Doug, who has kidney disease; doctors have decided to wait a month for a final decision on treatment (surgery vs. dialysis).
Jim McManamey asked for prayers for the wife of a friend. Jim Hunsucker died suddenly of unknown causes, after a few days at a hospital. His wife, Pat, needs our prayers for comfort and guidance.
Mark Doyle mentioned Marine Private Dichosea, under treatment for post-traumatic stress disorder and alcoholism, who committed suicide while at Bethesda Naval Hospital, leaving behind a wife and young child. Please pray for the family.

Ongoing Prayers:
Please keep praying for God to work a miracle for Tom Carlson's dad. He's had some moderate, continuing progress (some days better than others), but the long-term prognosis is not good.
Don't forget to pray for our building effort and the faith of our congregation, all of us pulling together.
