Praises, travel mercies:
We welcome back Helen Ruth and Dwight Lyons, visiting Potomac Crest and our class for the third week; also visiting this week are Vic and Mary Lindblom and Jay Clement, John's son.
Rhonda and Dwayne Pierce are praising the Lord. Rhonda's daughter has given birth to a boy, Lyric Dresden, and she has decided not to give him up for adoption. He's healthy, 6 lbs. 4 oz. and 21 1/4" long (tall and skinny). We're all looking forward to pictures, grandma!
Prayers:
We continue to pray for Claudia McManamey, who has now been home for going on thirteen weeks and is continuing her recovery. She is now coming regularly to the 11 a.m. service and using a walker instead of her wheelchair. Jim is hoping that they will be able to come to Sunday School class as well soon. You can, as always, visit read Jim's latest updates on their journal and show your support at: http://www.caringbridge.org/visit/claudiamcmanamey.
John Flowers asked for prayers for strength and comfort for his sister -- this week will be the anniversary of the death of her husband, and she has had great trouble reconciling to his passing.
Cathy Clement asked for continuing prayers for her father. He his home from the hospital, back on his diet, and the symptoms of his diverticulitis seem to have abated. Please also keep praying for John Clement's son Jay. He is staying clean and sober so far, but the weeks ahead will test his mettle and determination. We haven't yet found a residential program he can attend (it has to be in Virginia), and he will start a daily AA twelve-step program this coming week. On the positive side, he came with us to church on Sunday, attended Sunday School class, and said he liked the fellowship and welcome he received. We are praying he can find a church home, a sponsor and accountability partners in the Christiansburg area.
Phil asked for prayers for his brother. He has been staying at their house and is finally moving out by June 7th, to go and live (and, hopefully, find work) in Arizona, where he has a house. We continue to keep Phil's sister Crystal and her husband Donnie in our prayers, and also the Bolton family.
A reminder and request for help: Our class has committed to serving dinner at the Hilda Barg homeless shelter on Monday, June 7 (next Monday!), as part of PCBC's commitment to a week of serving dinners. We are planning an Italian dinner, with baked ziti (Phil Ridgway), lasagna (the Clements), a green salad, broccoli and garlic bread, and strawberry shortcake for dessert. Please help prepare and/or serve, if you have the time. Let John Clement know if you can help; families are especially welcome. We begin prepping by 6 p.m.; dinner is at 7 sharp, and cleanup must be done by 8 p.m.
Other ongoing requests: Lydia Flowers and Heather Zerkle, and other volunteers, are planning and preparing for Vacation Bible School, in late June. Please be in prayer about VBS and consider how you might be able to turn your talents to helping...
We continue to remember and pray for the people suffering and trying to rebuild in Haiti.

Praises, travel mercies:
We welcome back Helen Ruth and Dwight Lyons, visiting Potomac Crest and our class for the second week.
Prayers:
We continue to pray for Claudia McManamey, who has now been home for going on twelve weeks and is continuing her recovery. She has now come to the 11 a.m. service for the third week in a row! James is hoping that they will be able to come to Sunday School as well soon. You can, as always, visit read Jim's latest update on their journal and show your support at: http://www.caringbridge.org/visit/claudiamcmanamey.
We ask prayers for a friend of Cathy's family -- her sister's supervisor, James Walden, diagnosed with cancer.
Rhonda Pierce asks for continued prayers for her daughter, who is about to give birth this coming weekend, and is still thinking of giving up the child for adoption.
Sue Fitzhugh asked for prayers for her daughter Stacy, still in some confusion about what to do with herself this summer. She needs to find a job with a veterinary clinic before she starts veterinary school in the fall; but she is also considering going to visit her boyfriend for the summer.
John Clement asks for prayers for his son Jay. He is at a rehabilitation center for alcohol addiction, and is badly in need of prayer and support for the struggle he has ahead of him. His marriage, health, and possible future work are all at risk. We ask for prayers for the family's support and for his recognition of his need to dedicate himself to his recovery. John will travel to visit his son on Monday, and hopes to witness to the effect of faith in the Lord in his own life; please pray for the Holy Spirit to guide John's voice.
Please keep Phillip's sister Candy and her husband Donnie in your prayers. Candy has been diagnosed as having a torn ACL from falling while getting on a motorcycle, and Donnie had a seizure and has been diagnosed with cavernoma, a brain defect that can lead to aneurysms but can be treated with medication. Because of the seizure, Donnie may not be able to drive for 6 months which will drive him crazy.
Please continue to keep the Bolton family in your prayers. We also need prayers and support for Tom Carlson, who has taken over the leadership of the Youth Ministry until more permanent plans can be made. We pray that the church family members will step forward to help and support Tom and the youth, and Pastor Doug, in this difficult transition.
Other ongoing requests: Lydia Flowers and Heather Zerkle, and other volunteers, are planning and preparing for Vacation Bible School, in late June. Please be in prayer about VBS and consider how you might be able to turn your talents to helping...

Praises:
A huge praise for Phil Ridgway and Sue Fitzhugh! Phil, that classy gent, asked Sue to marry him at the end of the 8:30 service, in front of the entire congregation. She was caught entirely by surprise, and could not get the smile (and the occasional tear) off her face. Ring and everything. Their whole family was at the church to witness, and I don't believe there was a dry eye in the house.
John Flowers offers another large praise -- the proposal team he headed has finished its work and submitted the proposal.
We had a couple visiting our Sunday School class -- Dwight and Helen Ruth Lyons, looking at Potomac Crest as a possible church home closer to their own. We welcome them and thank them for their presence and contributions to the class; we hope to see them again. They offered praises for the birth of a grandniece, with a couple of other grands due this summer.
We had a lot of events this past Saturday -- a youth yard sale, a team doing the Cancer Walk, and the annual motorcycle ride. Travel mercies for all who stayed safe and healthy in the road events.
Prayers:
We continue to pray for Claudia McManamey, who has now been home for going on eleven weeks and is continuing her recovery. Jim has built a ramp and they have a stair lift, so she can get out of the house. Her recovery continues; she would welcome cards and visits are not out of the question. You can, as always, read the latest update and show your support at: http://www.caringbridge.org/visit/claudiamcmanamey. Please leave a note for Jim and Claudia and their family if you visit the site.

John Flowers asked for prayers for his brother-in-law, trying to get over a lingering infection.
Cathy Clement asks for prayers for her sister Rhonda, who is moving to a new home and is in need of guidance and the patient support of her family.
You know how we've been saying to pray for guidance and wisdom as our church looks for the Lord to tell us what we as a church need to do next. We had a brainstorming 'town hall' meeting after the 11 a.m. service this past Sunday. Many ideas were brought forward, and much pizza was consumed. The church leadership will ponder the ideas brought up, and look at the costs and benefits of each, and then bring the ideas back to another town meeting in a few weeks.

Praises, travel mercies:
Traveling for Mother's Day (obviously, in different capacities): Phil Ridgway, Dwayne Pierce, Cathy Clement. We wish them all safe travel back home.
Prayers:
We ask for a special prayer for the Bolton family. Jason has resigned as youth pastor at Potomac Crest, effective immediately. This is a very difficult time for Becky and Jason; they need our prayers as they deal with serious issues. We also pray for Tom Carlson, who is stepping in to help with the Youth Ministry until more permanent plans can be made. Please pray for guidance for Tom, and that the church family will rally around him to help over the next few weeks.
We continue to pray for Claudia McManamey, who has now been home for going on ten weeks and is continuing her recovery. You can, as always, read the latest update and show your support at: http://www.caringbridge.org/visit/claudiamcmanamey. Please leave a note for Jim and Claudia and their family if you visit the site.
Rhonda Pierce asks for continuing prayer for her daughter Britt, about three weeks from the due date for her baby. Pray for guidance and discernment in some major life decisions.
Also, pray for patience and relief from stress for John Flowers, in what should be the last week of preparing a major proposal at his place of work.
Phil Ridgway has not received the final paperwork for his new job. Pray for patience with the ways of the federal government...
You know how we've been saying to pray for guidance and wisdom as our church looks for the Lord to tell us what we as a church need to do next.
