By the Book Prayer Requests for Sunday 11/21/2010

Praises, travel mercies:
Cathy Clement is in Fairhope, Alabama, visiting her daughter Veronica. We pray for a great visit and travel mercies -- she returns Monday.

Rhonda Pierce had a strong praise: her daughter Brittney has signed up for another semester at her college in SW Virginia, which means she has (at least for the moment) given up her plans to return home. Dwayne and Rhonda will be visiting them for Thanksgiving, so we add them to the travel mercies list.

We had visitors at our class: Amanda and Danny Cox -- Danny is Gina McDonald's brother. The trio sang beautifully at the services. They are most welcome; we hope they will come back.

Larry Springer offered a praise. His wife, Nora, still appears to be taking her medication and seeing her psychiatrist regularly. She has now been out of resident therapy for a week, and Larry and Nora have made an agreement that will allow Nora to drive.

John Flowers offered praise for many (work, home, and other) situations; there is much going on, and God's hand is clearly visible in all of it. JK and Crystal, and the rest of the family, will be at John and Lydia's home for Thanksgiving.

Jim McManamey offered praise: he's been in a very intense work situation, and 2-3 folks at work have offered help, which he did not expect. Claudia's recovery continues strong, but (see below)...

Prayer requests:
Claudia McManamey said she had perhaps been overdoing it a bit; she is feeling very much better, but she has fallen a couple of times, once backwards into the bathroom tub. No long-term damage, but bruises and aches. Jim says we need to pray for her not to be disappointed with herself, and also to pray that she will not overdo this week preparing for many visitors to their home.

Phil Ridgway asked for prayers for the daughter of his friend Daishia Shackleford. Grace is an 8(10?) year-old, who has been suffering with lymphoma for a while. Doctors had thought she was in remission, but she is having ups and downs that make it difficult for her to consistently attend school. We pray for her full recovery. Phil also asked for prayers for his mom, Vicki, who took a bad fall and dislocated her arm, broke (and cut) her nose, and other lesser hurts. He also asked for prayers for calm and relief for Sue Fitzhugh, who will have worked nine days straight going into the coming Wednesday before Thanksgiving... She will be off for Thanksgiving, though.

We pray for recovery for Kevin Meade, who is undergoing chemotherapy for a cancer behind his sinus cavity.

Dwayne Pierce asked again for prayers for his sister Daphne, whose marriage is breaking up. The husband has been violent; we pray that things get back to civility.

We're still praying for the Bolton family's needs, financial and otherwise. We pray that Becky and Jason will find the way forward, with God's help. We're also praying for Bill Rickard and his wife Sherry, as he continues his chemotherapy at Duke University Hospital.

Also, please pray for those with money or job troubles in Woodbridge and Prince William County as well as the victims of the cholera epidemic in Haiti.

By the Book Prayer Requests for Sunday 11/14/2010

Praises, travel mercies:
Larry Springer said his wife returned home last Saturday. Her prescription has been changed, and she seems -- well, normal. She even made brownies.

The Flowers family had son JK and JK's wife Crystal visiting this weekend, and they came to church.
Four generations of Boltons (well, three in our class) were with us this Sunday: Becky's grandmother, her aunt, her parents, Becky herself... and the children in the nursery. Wonderful to have them all.

Cathy Clement will be traveling to Alabama this coming weekend to visit with her daughter. We wish her travel mercies, a good visit and a prompt return.

Prayer requests:
Mary Dunlap asked for prayers for her ex-husband, Jim. He has been laid off from his job, and the unemployment board is questioning his payments; he is very upset and worried. Pray for success in finding another job, and forbearance from the unemployment folks.

Claudia and Jim McManamey attended Sunday School! Claudia is doing very well. She mentioned her granddaughter Kathryn (recovering from mononucleosis); she is doing well, but she has three weeks' worth of missed school work to catch up on.

We're still praying for the Bolton family's needs, financial and otherwise. We pray that Becky and Jason will find the way forward, with God's help.

Also, please pray for those with money or job troubles in Woodbridge and Prince William County as well as the victims of the cholera epidemic in Haiti.

By the Book Prayer Requests for Sunday 11/7/2010

Praises, travel mercies:
Pastor Doug is on the middle leg of a marathon tour that took him to the Newport News area, then to Fort Campbell to baptize his granddaughter, and now heading back home. We hope he has easy travels and manages to get some peace and quiet.

Prayer requests:
Sue Fitzhugh asked for prayers for her daughter Staci, working on career decisions. Sue prays she will decide to keep working on her biology/premed degree...

Larry Springer reports that his wife Nora is back in institutional care; a magistrate's hearing took place on Monday. She needs help, but Larry is worried that she will be released without adequate medical treatment. We pray for discernment by the system and healing for Nora.

Rhonda Pierce asked for continued prayers for her daughter Brittney's decisions. She is still staying with her grandmother, and has childcare and transportation help, but she keeps saying she wants to return to this area, where she has none of these things unless she can pay for them... Dwayne Pierce asked for prayers for his older sister Daphne, who is in a very volatile marital situation, which is currently involving physical violence.

Becky Bolton mentioned both praises and prayers. God's blessings are too numerous to mention, but there are still needs. Financial ones, for one; Jason is trying to find work and some way to help the family. We pray that Becky and Jason will find the way forward, with God's help.
We are still praying for Susan Robinson, still weak but gradually recovering at home.
Also, please pray for those with money or job troubles in Woodbridge and Prince William County as well as all those recovering from the volcanic eruption and tsunami in Indonesia, floods in Pakistan, and the earthquake (and now cholera epidemic) in Haiti.
