By the Book Prayer Requests for Sunday 3/28/2010

Praises:
Larry Springer offered praises for his son-in-law, a pastor. He has been accepted to Duke Divinity School, in their doctoral program.
Gail Ryder offered praises -- she has been accepted into a mortgage loan modification program that will lower her payments for five years and then has a low adjustable ceiling.

Prayers, travel mercies:
Gail's daughter Raven left this week on a college tour. We pray for travel mercies and for her to find a college she likes.
John Flowers asked for prayers for sanity in the household as the date of JK's wedding gets closer.
We pray for Heather Zerkle's sister -- she has cancer but no clear diagnosis yet, and no path forward for treatment. Heather asks for prayers for diagnosis and a complete cure, in faith that God can do this.
We continue to pray for Claudia McManamey, who has now been home for going on four weeks. Jim and family are still trying to solve the problem of getting her out of the house as necessary, for appointments, in case of emergency, and just for her sanity as she continues to recover. Stair lifts are back under consideration. You can, as always, read the latest update and show your support at: http://www.caringbridge.org/visit/claudiamcmanamey . Please leave a note if you visit the site.
We are in prayer for the Talbots (Kevin and Debbie plus two); they are moving on Saturday April 3 and need help loading and unloading. We pray for stability in their finances.
We are knee-deep into planning and preparing for Vacation Bible School, in late June. Please be in prayer about VBS and consider how you might be able to turn your talents to helping...
We continue to remember and pray for the people suffering in Haiti, and also in Chile. Also, don't forget that we are still collecting for the Annie Armstrong fund.
Please pray for guidance and wisdom as our church looks for the Lord to tell us what we as a church need to do next.
And don't forget: next Friday is Good Friday, and Sunday is Easter Sunday: Sunrise Service will be at 7 a.m. and there will be a potluck breakfast afterward, and then 8:30 a.m service, Sunday School and the 11 a.m. service.
We will be offering, again, van conveyance to Sunday School and the 11 o'clock service from Fitzgerald Elementary, thanks to the Payne's loan of their van.

By the Book Prayer Requests for Sunday 3/21/2010

Praises:
Phillip Ridgway has heard about the Navy job he was hoping to get. He is to receive an appointment letter in the next week or so, and will be starting (assuming all paperwork gets properly done) sometime in April. Know that prayer works, and don't stop now!
JK Flowers came to Sunday School today; wedding plans are moving along. He gave praises for the support of family and friends, and asks for continuing prayers for stressfree (as much as possible) planning and for everyone to keep their sense of humor.

Prayers:
Sue Fitzhugh asks for prayers for a former in-law, Bernard. His ex-wife passed away (committed suicide), and the experience has been harrowing for him. Phillip reported he went with Bernard to help him clear out some things from her house, and in conversation heard some things that made him believe Bernard might be attempting to renew his faith in Christ. Sue and Phillip ask for prayers for the Spirit's support of their ministry and for Bernard's salvation.
Claudia McManamey has now been at home for almost three weeks. She makes progress, in big and small ways, every day. The adjustments that the family need to make are continuing; the good news is that she can now use the shower, with a lot of help. They are still trying to solve the problem of getting her out of the house as necessary, for appointments, in case of emergency, and just for her sanity as she continues to recover.
The Family Needs ministry has been lining up folks to take turns providing meals for the family. Please email or call Cindy Fox Bachman if you can help. Don't forget to keep praying for her and Jim and the family as she continues to improve. Jim thanks everyone for their prayers -- they are definitely helping. You can read the latest update and show your support at: http://www.caringbridge.org/visit/claudiamcmanamey . Please leave a note if you visit the site.
We mentioned earlier that an inlaw of Cathy Clement's (actually, a sister of her brother-in-law) had been diagnosed with lung cancer. It turns out that the diagnosis is of third-stage cancer; she is to receive heavy chemotherapy. We pray for successful treatment and relief of suffering.
Rhonda and Dwayne Pierce ask for prayers for her daughter, who has attempted suicide and is still having a very tough time with mental and emotional troubles. She is about to turn 21. Please pray for discernment and for relief, and for strength in support for Rhonda and Dwayne as they try to support her daughter in finding her way.
Sue Fitzhugh mentioned a coworker, Willy, just diagnosed with prostate cancer and headed for surgery and follow-up treatment.
We remember those still suffering and trying to rebuild in Haiti and in Chile. Remember that the Annie Armstrong mission collection continues.
As always, please also keep praying for all the needs in our church, and for God's will to continue to be manifest in what our Potomac Crest church community does to serve.
A personal note about this prayer list: we receive and pass on prayers for folks attending our class, but this list goes out to a much larger group. We are always glad to add more prayers to the list, but folks have to request them. Please write me, or just reply "all" to these messages, or reply to this blog, and your prayers will be passed on to all our group.

By the Book Prayer Requests for Sunday 2/28/2010

Praises:
Phil Ridgway has been trying to find a new job; although the job he currently has now seems more secure, he's still worried and looking. Last Friday, out of the blue, he got a request from Navy HR for his basic documents. Let's keep praying that he finds where the Lord wants him to be.
Pastor Doug is returning this week. We wish him renewed strength and enthusiasm.

Prayers:
Claudia McManamey is out of Mt. Vernon Rehab Hospital, and at home. This will be a big adjustment, and the Family Needs ministry will be looking to help. Please keep praying for her and Jim and the family as she continues to improve. Jim thanks everyone for their prayers -- they are definitely helping. You can read the latest update and show your support at: http://www.caringbridge.org/visit/claudiamcmanamey .
Jim is beginning to think about the future; one possible idea is that he can retire. Pray for his guidance and strength.
Gail Ryder says she is working on her family and personal issues, 'one day at a time.' This week, she reports, was a pretty positive one.
Larry Springer tells us Nora, his wife, did not come home last night. She has occasionally gone to stay at a local hotel. He will wait a few days and, if she doesn't return, put in a missing persons report. We pray for healing strength for both Larry and his wife.
Rhonda Pierce asked for prayers for peace in her family. Her husband and her 20-year-old daughter have been quarreling.
John Flowers asks for prayers: his family is going through a fair amount of turmoil, between his mom, his son's wedding plans, his sister... we pray for peace and strength for all.
We remember those still suffering and trying to rebuild in Haiti and now in Chile.
As always, please also keep praying for all the needs in our church, and for God's will to continue to be manifest in what our Potomac Crest church community does to serve.
