Praises, travel mercies:
The big praise, of course: the birthday of our Lord and Savior.
John Flowers offered praises for safe travel: his son JK and daughter-in-law Crystal arrived safely in Atlanta to spend Christmas with her family.
We ask also for travel mercies for everyone returning home today, with the threat of a snow storm in the area and points south. Dee Heyden's niece Julia is on her way to visit her, passing through Kentucky yesterday.
Prayer requests:
The Zerkle family (very active in the children's ministry) are home sick today; we pray for a quick general recovery.
John asked for prayers for the Flowers family, beginning preparations for the annual Valentine's day dinner at PCBC.
Mike Benfield was visiting our class today, since their Couples class was all away; he asked for prayers for a colleague, Nick Khazal, laid off recently. We pray that he may find his way spiritually, and we pray he may find Jesus; and we also pray that he may find work.
Larry Springer reports that his wife Nora continues to do well; that they visited family for Christmas dinner and things went smoothly. They are both battling colds.
We continue to pray for the Bolton family; for Cathy's dad, Ron Smith; and for Bill Rickard, battling leukemia. We're also praying for Diana Heyden and her daughter Kristin, and for Cheryl Hartung (Jerry and Tamara Pruitt's daughter) going in for surgery on the 28th.
Also, please pray for those with money or job troubles in Woodbridge and Prince William County as well as the people suffering the cholera epidemic in Haiti.

By the Book Prayer Requests for Sunday12/19/2010
Praises, travel mercies:
We welcomed two guests to class: Diane Heyden and her daughter, Kristin. A special-call (short) business meeting was held at the beginning of the 11 a.m. service for the purpose of voting on inviting Jay Holladay to be our new youth pastor. The vote was unanimous in favor. Jay and his family are expected at Potomac Crest around 9 January.
We had a good visit at the Flowers' home on Saturday -- a smaller crowd than we would have preferred, but we had a good time and ate extremely well. John adds praises (and relief) for being done with the big proposal at work; they are now in the negotiation phase.
Prayer requests:
Cathy Clement asked for prayers for a work situation -- a couple of colleagues fighting at her workplace.
Our visitors, Diane and Kristin, asked for prayers. They are both, mother and daughter, going through a difficult situation related to divorces. Please pray for endurance and for the ability to let go of anger, and trust in God to help them find their way.
John Clement asked for prayers for his son Jay: he is battling depression again, and has come down with strep throat -- and he can't take his antidepressants and his antibiotics at the same time. We ask that he find his way forward; the holidays are hard -- there is a lot of separation going on in his life.
Jerry Pruitt (greeter at the 8:30 services, deacon candidate) asked that we put his daughter Cheryl Hartung on our prayer list . She is going to have surgery on December 28; Jerry said it was a touchy operation.
Also, Harry Stickley (a deacon) asked for prayers for a coworker, Samantha. He writes: "My co-worker Samantha was contacted by her doctor earlier this week while she was on travel to come in immediately because of test results. Samantha was overseas so could not go. She is reluctant to hear bad news so decided not to see the doctor even after she returned from the trip. Apparently the doctor called again today urging her to come in to discuss the test results and “options”. Samantha says that she does not want to hear bad news so will wait and see the doctor next week. I told her that we would pray for her but I’m not exactly sure what to pray, except that her condition is not life-threatening."
Becky Bolton said things with her family are good, but issues are still difficult (some financial). Becky finished her second semester of nursing school with great grades; Jason is doing well at CDL training, and hopes he can find a job at the end of training, in mid-January. She asked that we continue to pray for the family's needs, financial and otherwise. We pray that Becky and Jason will find their way forward, with God's help.
We continue to pray for Cathy's dad, Ron Smith; and for Bill Rickard, battling leukemia. He's back home and doing better.
Also, please pray for those with money or job troubles in Woodbridge and Prince William County as well as the people suffering the cholera epidemic in Haiti.

By the Book Prayer Requests for Sunday12/12/2010
A note: the Sunday School class is planning to gather at the Flowers' home next Saturday, December 18 at 3 p.m. As usual, John will grill meats, and all class members and former classmates are invited to join in, bring a side dish or beverages, and help us all wish each other a Merry Christmas! Let either of the Johns know if you are planning to attend and what you think you will bring. All recipients of this email are most welcome!
Praises, travel mercies:
Phillip Ridgway is back home from overseas travel. We also celebrate the visit of the youth pastor under consideration, Jay Holladay and his family.
Larry Springer offered praises; his wife Nora continues doing very well on her new medication, and he is still hoping to bring her to church soon.
We offer praises and continued prayers again for Bill Rickard and his family, now back home in Woodbridge from his stay at Duke University Hospital. He did so well in his first treatment that he is back sooner than they had anticipated.
Claudia McManamey had a bunch of praises to the Lord for herself and her family. Not only is this the one-year anniversary of her coming down with Guillain-Barre syndrome (and her recovery is close to complete), but her daughter Tara has been chosen as clinical nurse specialist graduate of the year for her class, and her other daughter Dawn has earned her Master's of Divinity from Regent University. And her son John, who has been struggling with his job and income issues, is looking at a strong job possibility, perhaps as soon as late December. It has been wonderful to see Claudia and Jim back in Sunday School.
Prayer requests:
Gail Byrd-Ryder asked for prayers for herself. She still has the two foster children, and they are a continuing challenge. She also asked for prayers for her niece, Angel, 8 years old; she has been admitted to Children's Hospital.
Cathy Clement asked for prayers for her father, Ron Smith. He had an MRI Friday; they found an aneurysm. He also has a small cancerous mass on his neck. He is very worried, if anything more about the cancer than the aneurysm. We pray for medical discernment and for his continued health and peace of mind.
Sue Fitzhugh asked for prayers for her friend Donna, suffering from severe back pain. She had an MRI last week. Suspicion is that she has an inflamed disk in addition to chronic arthritis.
We continue to pray for the Bolton family's needs, financial and otherwise. We pray that Becky and Jason will find their way forward, with God's help. Jason starts commercial driver training on Monday.
Also, please pray for those with money or job troubles in Woodbridge and Prince William County as well as the people suffering the cholera epidemic in Haiti.

By the Book Prayer Requests for Sunday12/5/2010
Praises, travel mercies:
Phillip Ridgway is on overseas travel. We wish him safe travels.
Larry Springer offered vehement praises; his wife Nora is doing very well on new medication, and he is hoping to bring her to church soon.
We offer praises and continued prayers for Bill Rickard and his family, under treatment at Duke University Hospital. His white cell count is in the normal range, and he is doing so well he was sent to his hotel room, out of the hospital, for the weekend. If the count remains stable, they can take his bone marrow for the next phase of his treatment.
The church held a successful business meeting/fried chicken lunch Sunday after the second service. Praises for all who participated, brought food... We approved a budget for 2011, voted in some new deacons, and named Cathy Clement incoming chair of the Finance Committee.
Prayer requests:
Again, not too many prayer requests. Claudia McManamey is home sick. Nothing too serious, just a case of the flu.
We continue to pray for the Bolton family's needs, financial and otherwise. We pray that Becky and Jason will find the way forward, with God's help.
