By the Book Sunday School Class: Prayer Requests for Sunday 5/24/09

Praises:
Claudia McManamey had her first shoulder surgery this past Friday.  She is recovering well, although she wasn't yet up to going out today.
We ask travel mercies for all our Memorial Day travelers.
We give thanks for the servicemen and -women actively defending our country, and we remember all those who have given their lives to preserve our country's liberties.
Anita Hampton and Lisa Qualls offered praises for Phil's brother Tyrone Eads, who had been suffering from a job-related injury and battling his employer. A court settlement has given him a payment for medical expenses and back pay; he had been at the end of his resources.

Prayers:
One of our church members, Toni Reynolds, had a serious car accident on Tuesday evening, and is in Inova Fairfax with a broken collarbone, a dislocated hip, and a broken jaw. She will be released to a rehabilitation center this week. Please keep her, her husband Vaughn, and children Chelsea & Taylor in your prayers for full recovery and for support for the family.
Valerie Dinwiddie asked for continuing prayers for her dad's healing.  In addition to congestive pulmonary disease and his recovery from lung cancer, he has been diagnosed with atrial fibrillation and medicine has not brought it under control yet.  His next PET scan will be this coming Tuesday.
Anita Hampton asked for prayers for continued healing: a pallet landed on her right knee, and she's had some bruising, swelling and soreness. Both sisters asked for prayers for their grandmother, Roberta Smalls. Her doctors are concerned about potential for kidney failure and want to put in a portal in her arm in case of a need for emergency dialysis. She's not feeling sick and is resisting. Please pray for her to make the right decision -- she is 85 and very active.
The Bohr/Gillespie clan has had a difficult week. Betty Bohr (Leanne Gillespie's mother) had just returned from traveling to the funeral of her sister when she received a call that a brother had suffered kidney failure. Please pray for recovery and peace for the family.
Raven, Gail Ryder's daughter, is facing knee surgery on Thursday, to repair torn ligaments from sports. Please pray for a strong recovery.

Please pray for our VBS effort (Vacation Bible School).  A lot of positions are filled, but we still need more workers, and we also need a way to feed them, and nursery help.

Let's not forget to pray for people in economic distress in our own church and neighborhoods.   Also, please keep praying for the whole church, the leadership, and for God's will in all the many projects we are undertaking.

Announcements:   Our Sunday School class has accepted responsibility for one night's meals at the Hilda Barg shelter in early June.  We have Tuesday June 9.  We've decided on Mexican food, and have started to circulate a sign-up list. John Clement will send around a list to the class emails; to help please reply, or please get in touch with John Clement at john.clement@ed.gov or 202-270-6669.
And don't forget, we are still collecting Bibles and Christian books to send to India to the IBL.
