By the Book Prayer Requests for Sunday 9/26/2010

Praises, travel mercies:
Phil Ridgway has returned safely from his travels.
John Clement's son Jay is out of jail; however, his heart is still uncertain and we're not sure he's on the path to recovery. Please continue to keep him in your prayers. He was very moved by everyone's letters and cards.
Jim McManamey said Claudia has been spending the week at the children's home in North Carolina, and by all accounts doing very well. He has every hope she will soon be able to come to both Sunday school and service.
Becky Bolton offered praises; she has begun to get to know her neighbors, and their kids come to the house and yard and play. She stays out to watch them, and has been able to chat with a few of the neighbor mothers. Jason has been writing her, and his letters show a change of heart; she is hopeful. He has been ministering to one of his fellow prisoners in jail. Jason's next court date is Tuesday; Becky is trying to see if an inpatient facility can be found where he can be located while waiting for sentencing. This will cost money, so there is much to pray about.
Cathy Clement will be traveling this weekend to visit her daughter, who will have her tonsils removed. Travel mercies, and successful recovery for Miss Veronica.

Prayer requests:
Gina McDonald asked for prayers for her mom. Beth has been diagnosed with colon cancer; she has been injected with a radioactive seed, and will also need a year of chemotherapy. She is not healthy; please pray for strength and endurance.
Rhonda Pierce asked for prayers for her daughter to come to Christ. She is still handling two jobs, but she and Dwayne are surviving. Rhonda's dad had to have emergency surgery; there had been a risk he would lose his leg, but the doctors managed to save it. He's doing well in recovery.
Sue Fitzhugh mentioned her mom, either 79 or 80. She had back surgery, and is now undergoing further testing. There is worry that her kidneys are starting to fail. Please pray for healing and relief from pain.
Jim McManamey mentioned a former hospital roommate of Claudia's. Mary Alice had a serious car accident, and has had several surgeries; she still cannot put weight on one leg. Pray for encouragement and endurance; she is having a very hard time.
John Clement mentioned his coworker, Betty Suber. She is a very religious woman, and may have had a breakdown; she abruptly tried to resign. Her family asked that she be placed on medical leave, saying she needs her job and her medical coverage. Please pray for her recovery and for perspective for her and for her family (she has ailing parents and a 14-year-old daughter). Another coworker of John's, Ali Khan, has a perfect storm of family problems besetting him; please pray for peace in his house.
John Flowers mentioned a coworker, Paul Ebert, badly hurt in a motorcycle accident.
We remember all the classes ongoing or starting this Sunday: Becky Bolton and Deb Duty teaching a class on "when ungodly things happen to godly people"; Cathy Clement leading DivorceCare, and John leading GriefShare; also Doug teaching Bible studies, plus youth classes and Awana... Also, John Flowers is thinking of leading a class on the Truth Project.
We are also praying for a bunch of people: Donna Oler, Cathy's sister's sister-in-law, with spreading lung cancer; the Lorton family who lost their mother and two children; the families whose townhouses burned to the ground in Manassas; Sue Fitzhugh's coworker, whose wife lost her hand in a work-related accident, and who has lost one brother and may lose a second to brain cancer. Also, Cathy's brother R.L. who may have to go back to teaching middle school earth science.
Deb Talbot of our church is still asking for prayer support and "...please pass the word on that my sister Leslie O'Neal and her 8 year old daughter are looking for a VERY inexpensive room/basement to rent in the Woodbridge area. Leslie works off Dale Boulevard and Mya is going to school in this area. they are temporarily living with my grandmother and aunt in a retirement community and Mya can only stay there 90 days."
Still praying for John Flowers' wife Lydia, looking for work. Please keep praying for John Clement's son Jay, that he may find the path to recovery and, if possible, to faith in Jesus.
Also, pray for those with money or job troubles in Woodbridge and Prince William County as well as all those recovering from floods in Pakistan and the earthquake in Haiti. Also, please pray for guidance for the men's ministry, and for their retreat in October.

By the Book Prayer Requests for Sunday 9/19/2010

Praises, travel mercies:
Mary Dunlap had a great praise. She had asked for prayers for her boss, Tom Blake, who was in for testing and was afraid he had lung cancer. He had his tests this past week, and the doctors confirmed he had pneumonia, but no sign of cancer.
Phil Ridgway is still on travel, not back until next Saturday.
Becky Bolton offered praise to all of the Potomac Crest family, for assistance and encouragement. She said her father-in-law had called to offer encouragement, and she was very grateful that they are staying in touch.
John Clement offered a praise: his son Jay will be released from jail this coming Saturday, and we hope to bring him to Fairfax next week and maybe to church with us next Sunday.

Prayers:
Dwayne Pierce asked for prayers for Rhonda; she was promoted to a job with more responsibility (and stress) and then asked (and was given) her old job back -- now she's stuck with both jobs. Let's pray for some relief and peace of mind. Gina McDonald is doing HR at the Pentagon, and between all the generals and the end of the fiscal year she is working evenings and weekends; we can pray for the end of the fiscal year (September 30) for her and for the rest of us Fed employees.
Cathy Clement asked that we keep her daughter Veronica in our prayers; she has been suffering from near-chronic tonsillitis, and will have her tonsils removed on September 30. Cathy will be going down to visit with her.
We're continuing to pray for Cathy's sister's sister-in-law, Donna Oler, in Florida, with tumors in both lungs. Pray for strength, endurance, peace of heart, and (if God wills it) a miracle to cure her. Also for her brother R.L. who may have to go back to teaching middle school earth science.
Deb Talbot of our church is asking for prayer support and "...please pass the word on that my sister Leslie O'Neal and her 8 year old daughter are looking for a VERY inexpensive room/basement to rent in the Woodbridge area. Leslie works off Dale Boulevard and Mya is going to school in this area. they are temporarily living with my grandmother and aunt in a retirement community and Mya can only stay there 90 days."
We're also keeping John Flowers' wife Lydia in our prayers; she was laid off, has now resolved (we hope) her unemployment problem, but has decided to look for work...
Becky Bolton asked that we keep praying for Jason, that he finds guidance to straighten out his path in life, and for strength and endurance for her and her family. Some days are better than others...
As usual, our ongoing prayers for Jay Clement (John's son), for Claudia McManamey, for Cathy Clement's DivorceCare class starting at the end of this month, for GriefShare and Awana and the other youth and adult classes, for those with money or job troubles in Woodbridge and Prince William County as well as all those recovering from floods in Pakistan and mine accidents and the earthquake in Haiti. Also, please pray for guidance for the men's ministry, and for their retreat in October.

By the Book Prayer Requests for Sunday 9/12/2010

Praises, travel mercies:
Phil Ridgway said he would be traveling for work this coming weekend; Larry Springer is still on his vacation at the beach.
The women's breakfast was Saturday, at the church. A good time was had by all, although they didn't save me any food... A group held prayers in the sanctuary on Saturday morning in remembrance of 9/11/2001; very moving ceremony.
We welcomed a visitor, Gina McDonald, to the class.
Claudia McManamey was in the church on Saturday for the women's breakfast; she left her walker, walked over to John C. and gave him a hug; then she walked back to where she had left her walker. God is good!
John Clement is praising the Lord -- the GriefShare class opened Sunday evening with ten participants (well, eight plus John and Mary Dunlap). Please pray for God's comfort and guidance for all.

Prayers:
Mary Dunlap asked for continuing prayers for her boss, Tom Blake. He goes in for tests this coming Tuesday.
Cathy Clement asked for prayers for her sister's sister-in-law, Donna Oler. She had been on our prayer list before, with a mass in one lung. After radiation and chemotherapy, the mass had shrunk; now it has grown again, and has spread to her other lung. Pray for guidance and strength for Donna and her family; she is single, lives alone, and her relatives are afraid she will just give up the fight.
Cathy also asked for prayers for her brother, known to all as R.L. He is a land surveyor in Arkansas, and there has been no real estate action in his area for a long time; he is thinking of going back to teaching middle school to keep his family fed.
John Flowers mentioned Lydia, his better half. She was laid off, but it looks as though her company may have resolved some money issues and will bring her back to work, maybe as early as this week. She may still go looking for another job. John also asked for prayers for his sister; this week will be the first anniversary of her husband's death, and she has had trouble adjusting.
Phil Ridgway asked for prayers for Susan; she is suffering from overwork and stress on the job, with a new store opening. He also mentioned an old school friend, Dacia Shackleford. She has had a rough time; her daughter has been battling leukemia for two years (she is now 10); she had been a member of the Mormon faith, but has now put that aside. Phil prays that his friend will fill the gap with the acknowledgement of Christ and the presence of the Holy Spirit.
As usual, our ongoing prayers for Jay Clement (John's son), for Claudia McManamey, for Cathy Clement's DivorceCare class starting at the end of this month, for DivorceShare and Awana and the other youth and adult classes, for those with money or job troubles in Woodbridge and Prince William County as well as all those recovering from floods in Pakistan and mine accidents and the earthquake in Haiti. Also, please pray for guidance for the men's ministry, and for their retreat in October.

By the Book Prayer Requests for Sunday 9/5/2010

Praises, travel mercies:
Mary Dunlap offered praises for her brother's healing. The pain and numbness he was feeling before spinal/neck surgery are gone, and he is actually being told he can soon go back to work!
Several folks offered praises (and prayers) that kids are going (or will soon go) back to school. We pray for our youth as the new school year begins.
John Clement offered praises for his son Jay and our church. He has gone through half his jail time, and several church folk have written him, and he has written back. Please keep him in your prayers, that his heart may be lifted by all the love surrounding him and he may find his way to salvation and life change.
Phil Ridgway offered praises and a prayer for the Men's Breakfast (yesterday, with fairly light attendance) and the Men's Ministry. Please pray for folks to step forward and lead this ministry -- and all of you, don't forget the retreat the third week in October.
Travel mercies for Larry Springer; this week he's at a school reunion in Wisconsin, and then he's off to the beach, lucky stiff.

Prayers:
Mary Dunlap asked for continued prayers for herself, for health issues. Her blood sugar levels have been good, easing her fear of diabetes; she had a hearing exam, and she has lost a good deal of hearing in her right ear. Doctors will be looking for the cause; this has also affected her balance and caused occasional dizziness and tinnitus (ringing in the ears). Mary also asked for prayers for her former boss; Mr. Blake has been the closest thing to a grandfather her daughter Brianna has had, and is seriously ill.
Sue Fitzhugh asked for prayers for her coworker. In her own words from earlier in the week: Please add one of my Bakery Managers, Son Nguyen to the prayer list. He recently lost his brother in Vietnam from inability to recover from brain surgery for tumors. He has another brother that is in a coma in Canada, also result of brain tumor surgery. He has returned to the US from Vietnam to find that his wife had an accident at work, causing her to lose her hand. She is the manager in a noodle factory and was training new hires on equipment. He needs uplifting for the ability to cope with all the struggles he is facing.
John Flowers asked for continued prayers for Lydia, his wife. She has been laid off, and now is looking for work and also battling the unemployment office, against claims she has not been working for the past two years.
Becky Bolton mentioned she had had a good visit with Jason in the past week, and that he seems consistent in his messages and communication with everyone and she is hopeful. She asks for prayers for him for wisdom, discernment, and strength to deal with issues that extend back into his earliest days. Please keep Jason, Becky and their family in your prayers.

Phil Ridgway is still fixing up his old house to rent it; they still have to deal with carpet, bathroom and yard issues. We pray for strength and good weather.

As we said last week: The church is looking at a full agenda this fall: Awana, youth activities, many classes, including GriefShare (ask John C.), DivorceCare (ask Cathy C.), Experiencing God, Bible study, etc. We ask you to lift up the church and its teachers and leaders in prayer as we reach out to our community and our membership. We continue to pray for Claudia McManamey and Jim, for all our members still hurting from the economic slowdown, and of course for people suffering in Pakistan, in China, and still recovering in Haiti.
