We've heard from a few of you, but are still looking for expressions of interest in having a social event for friends, members, and former members of this Sunday School class, and all the folks on our prayer request list. We've missed seeing each other outside of Sunday services! So we are thinking about the first weekend of August, most likely Saturday the 7th. John Flowers has offered his house. We could do a potluck dinner, say gathering around 6 p.m. All family members welcome! Please reply to John F. or John C., or just let us know when you see us on Sunday.
Praises, travel mercies:
We have mostly praises this week!
Larry Springer was able to join the class this week; his recovery from double bypass heart surgery is going well. Also, Claudia McManamey is regularly attending the 11 a.m. service, making a great (if slow) recovery from Guillain-Barre Syndrome. We look forward to her joining us again in Sunday School.
Cathy Clement is happy to share that her daughter Veronica is coming this Wednesday to spend a week with them; John is happy that his son Jay is coming up from Christiansburg to stay for a while; he is staying clean and sober. Travel mercies, and also to all our vacation travelers during this season.
Phil Ridgway's father (driving east to stay with Phil's sister) has made it to Arkansas, and is expected to reach Newport News by sometime Monday.
I forgot to mention a huge (and long-delayed) praise: Phil Ridgway's papers have finally come in for his new job at the Navy Yard. He had been waiting for a long time, and there are some details to be worked out, but he actually has a start date: June 19!
Prayers:
We continue to pray for Larry Springer's recovery, and for Winnie Cooper.
Also Claudia McManamey and her husband Jim. You can, as always, visit and read Jim's latest updates on their journal and show your support at: http://www.caringbridge.org/visit/claudiamcmanamey.
We are continuing to pray for the Bolton family. And, of course, we continue to remember and pray for the people suffering and trying to rebuild in Haiti.
