By the Book Prayer Requests for Sunday 8/29/2010

Praises, travel mercies:
Friday and Saturday, Women of Faith came to Washington! Cathy Clement, Sue Fitzhugh, Lisa Qualls, Olthea Croom and Missy Jessup attended, along with a reported 20,000 others. They witnessed to having a wonderful time. Cathy has ordered five tickets for next year, and more can be ordered if folks are interested.
Youth training camp is taking place this week. We wish them safe travels and a safe return, and a great opportunity to worship and fellowship with one another.
Mary Dunlap gave a strong praise, and thanks for prayers, for her brother, Richard Bischoff. He had back surgery to open the nerve canal in his spine at his neck; plates and a screw were inserted. The results have been nothing short of a miracle: he already has feeling back in his fingers, and he has lost weight and may not need his diabetes medicine.

Prayers:
Mary Dunlap asked for prayers for herself, for health issues. Also, Sue Fitzhugh is recovering from laryngitis.
Larry Springer is continuing to make an excellent recovery. He reports that Nora (his wife) is trying a new medicine, and it will be a few weeks before they know if it works. He will be off for a couple of weeks, to a high school reunion in Wisconsin, and then with his youngest son to the beach -- they don't know if Nora will go with them.
John Flowers reported that Lydia has been laid off; they hope it is temporary. JK (John's son) and Crystal may visit soon; we hope they will come by and we will get to meet her.
Cathy's visit to her daughter led to some disturbing news about some of her daughter's closest friends, including reports of sexual activity. Veronica is very disturbed with her friends, and at last report was not continuing to interact with them; but it is very difficult for her. We ask for prayers for her continued steadfast moral stance and discernment, and prayers for her friends to change their hearts and their behavior.
Becky Bolton praised God for working blessings in her family's life. Jason, she hears through his father, is going through a real emotional roller coaster. She has not visited him yet, but hopes to soon. His next court hearing will not take place until at least October 1st, and he will miss his son's birthday, first day of school... She asked that we pray for him, and said that he welcomes letters; she will add his address to this message when we send it out. We urge all of us to be in prayer for Becky, for her family, and for Jason. Becky in particular will be working in Awana, tending to her family, and attending nursing school.
John Clement and his daughter Sarah visited Jay this past Saturday. He is doing well, and is heartened by letters and books he has received, including a number of letters from Potomac Crest. We thank you from the bottom of our hearts for your prayers; he says he feels the prayers and feels loved and cared for. We hope it moves his heart. He has another month left, and faces much uncertainty after that.
The church is looking at a full agenda this fall: Awana, youth activities, many classes, including GriefShare (ask John C.), DivorceCare (ask Cathy C.), Experiencing God, Bible study, etc. We ask you to lift up the church in prayer as we reach out to our community and our membership. We continue to pray for Claudia McManamey and Jim, for all our members still hurting from the economic slowdown, and of course for people suffering in Pakistan, in China, and still recovering in Haiti.
